Fire Sheep lo shu

The Month of the Fire Sheep, Animal by Animal:
These generic forecasts carry different nuances dependent upon whether this Animal rules your Year, Month, Day, Hour or Life House.

Sheep (1943, 55, 67, 79, 91; births in July*, 1-3pm & on certain days#) Slave to the Fire – mostly attention – which is good if Fire favours you. Grace required. Pay your dues.

Monkey (1944, 56, 68, 80, 92; births in August*, 3-5pm & on certain days#) Melts Metal; not your clearest month. Some openings for profit – 18th A fair exchange.

Rooster (1945, 57, 69, 81, 93; births in September*, 5-7pm & on certain days#) Tail-chasing is so tempting; stillness probably better: wei wu wei.

Dog (1946, 58, 70, 84, 96; births in October*, 7-9pm & on certain days#) Pace yourself; you’re more affected by heat than most. Possible break-up of some sort – 18th or 30th.

Pig (1947, 59, 71, 83, 95; births in November*, 9-11pm & on certain days#) potential rather than fulfilment. Unfinished business can complete now.

Rats (1948, 60, 72, 84, 96; births in December* 11pm-1am & on certain days#). The reducing Fire supports brilliance if you’ll let it. Full of ideas if you are open to them.

Ox (1949, 61, 73, 85, 97; births in January*, 1-3am & on certain days#) Take it slowly; you’ll see more. Technically the Month Breaker.

Tiger (1950, 62, 74, 86, 98; births in February*, 3-5am & on certain days#) Still on top. Prepare for possible setback in Monkey Month to reduce impact. No surprise of course.

Rabbit (1951, 63, 75, 87, 99; births in March*, 5-7am & on certain days#), Fast moving, empowered. Busy but not frantic. Many opportunities.

Dragon (1952, 64, 76, 88, 2000; births in April* 7-9am & on certain days#) Sleepy; let miracles be done or you and through you. If you’re not changing radically already, now is the time.

Snake (1941,53, 65, 77, 89; births in May*, 9-11am & on certain days#) Slightly out of sync; wait for the next bus rather than walking to the next stop.

Horse (1942, 54, 66, 78, 90; births in June*, around midday & on certain days#) Needs met without great effort. Delegate. Trust your team; this may mean family.
* Chinese Months start later than European ones. #You’ll need help or a Chinese Calendar for this.

A helpful Day in the Sheep Month

Monday 18th July, Water Monkey, Net, Remove (4) ***** very helpful
Water Monkey is an unusual primate, being prepared to speak freely. State your true aims today; you may surprise yourself; after you’ve discarded what’s cool, sounds good or your Mum would approve of, what’s left is the truth. How does it feel?
Most eloquent: All Rats, All Monkeys; Metal(40) Water(52) Wood(64) Dragon; Wood(65) Fire(77) Earth(89) Metal(41) Snake.
In any pillar

Not so helpful

Sunday 17th July, Metal Sheep, Pleiades, Establish (5) ***** Worrying.
Pleiades requires bright light, at least from the Moon. If it’s dull, the traditional prognosis is “glimpses of war”. As ever this could be in Westminster, Kyyv, Nicaragua or on your doorstep. The Sheep is a populist; an unbalanced one will do almost anything to bask in the zeitgeist. If today is bright, so are everybody’s prospects. If not, not.
Activity: Horse due South for publicity or promotion. Also rescue.
Caution: Rat, Ox, those who talk rather than act.

The Month of the Fire Sheep – the shape of the month.
Dungeons and Dragons
The annual T’ung Shu (or Farmer’s Almanac) is where feng shui Masters look for an inkling as to what the year holds. I am no exception. This volume has been in use in one way or another for more than a thousand years and it is reputed to sell more copies than the Bible. You will see it modestly bound in paper, piled high in Chinatown’s shops from late November to February. Like so much Chinese Metaphysics it consists of insights which are based in the cycles of weather, planetary movement and the phases of the Moon (which you might call yin) as well as conclusions, tables and calculations (which you might call yang).

If you had consulted it late last year you’d have noticed that neither Rats nor Dragons could expect helpful Stars in 2022. And the Dog was only due to receive one. The Dragon’s power means she can be tyrannical or a saviour, Dogs are proverbially immoveable. Unpacking that, it was clear that Dragons like Putin and Boris Johnson (but also Harvey Weinstein and Philip Green)  needed to find an entirely new approach if they were to get by; on the saviour front, Marianne Williamson too.

The fates of Putin and Johnson are entwined. Both are in great difficulty and truth be told, great pain though we may not be inclined to pity them. Both have painted themselves into a corner. Putin however was born on the day of the Dog which means that he is compromised on both public and personal levels. What happens to one will be echoed in the other but the pit is deeper for Putin.

For the Dog in his ba zi, a Sheep Month implies some sort of break up. Dogs and Dragons are however the most stubborn Animals of the Chinese pantheon. Even resignation means they are down but not out. They cannot stand to lose. They bounce back. The Dog ruling Putin’s day is the same Fire Dog as Trump btw.

I’m pretty certain that Putin is receiving ze ri advice (that is guidance about timing) from one or more of the many technically brilliant Russian feng shui Masters. So why is he not doing better? The answer may be a very human one. The Dragon is tuned to transmit. Putin like Johnson no more listens to woo-woo advice than to any other sort. It’s clear both from the T’ung Shu and observation of the world stage that this year Dragons need to learn to listen, to adapt and evolve and completely change their approach. If not it is not only they who suffer.

This applies to all of us Dragons and to a greater or lesser extent everyone. As my teacher and role model Chuck Spezzano advised: “Open to the yin”. The more committed we are however, the less likely we are to do it.

To add to all this, at the heart of this month’s lo shu are the baleful Annual 5 and the macho Monthly 6 which indicate toxic male energy in places of power. Even worse decisions than recent ones are likely to come from our governments, boards of directors and other centres of power, especially those led by Dragons. No change there then. This may of course as ever comprehend your kitchen and indeed bedroom. And it may only be a beginning.

“Open to the yin” was what Chuck Spezzano advised but it was Dorothy Parker who remarked that “a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle.” It’s pretty clear that men, even if they don’t think so, need women to keep them from the worst of male stupidity. Interestingly feng shui though historically very much a male preserve, has its roots in female wisdom. In a universe with no fixed points, the closest there is to a constant is the phases of the Moon. Which is the base line of Chinese Metaphysics. And who is most likely to have stumbled upon this cycle – a man or a woman?

As you might expect, it looks like most of what’s wrong with the world is the outcome of decisions made by small groups of men without appropriate female supervision. The overturning of Roe versus Wade is no exception; nor the invasion of Ukraine. Nor indeed are the playing fields of Eton as transposed to Westminster.

This may be related to the fact that we are now on the cusp between the 8th Fate (where greed slugs it out with idealism) and the 9th (where mature contemplation may be countered by haste). Either way we are in desperate need of female wisdom at the centres of power.

In turbulent times like these many of us want to know how to respond to crisis. And the answer in this fragile Sheep month is that now of all times is the moment to represent our true values. And to listen and change as appropriate. Open to the yin. Especially Dragons and Dogs.

Where to locate in the Sheep Month
North East, Wealth Star: Tai sui (Tiger) or Year Star: 8 Month Star: 9.
9 and 8 are a pretty helpful combination. Occupation is often the best form of activation, so this is the place to move your hot desk again this month. Aim to enjoy the attention that follows because creativity and productivity come in the same package. Orthodox advice for obtaining the most from this combination includes holding long loud parties but making a cup of tea with intention may work just as well. Note also that the tao has no favourites: the 9:8 pattern suggests progress for Russian troops in Ukraine just as clearly as the above. Continue to avoid facing NE3 (around 60º ENE).
Magnify: Fire bright light – including sunlight.

Where not to locate in the Sheep Month
Tai chi, Home, the centre: Year Star: 5 Month Star: 6. Year Wu huang.
The conjunction of the rogue 5 Star and the paternal 6 at the tai chi supports the worst kind of machismo. You may be noticing this in the home as well as on the world stage. 6 relates to the father, the older male and heads – in many different senses including that of leaders. There’ll be a lot of vacuous spouting and innocent fathers and older men locating here are especially vulnerable.
What’s at the tai chi tends to represent what’s on the front page: reversing Roe versus Wade has lit a fuse and the outrage is not dying away any time soon. Meanwhile the 9 Fire that falls in the North East this month suggests a great deal of attention and firepower will (continue to) be focused on Ukraine. It’s not getting better in a hurry. 9 is the Star of explosions and attention; expect many manifestations, some not pretty.
Readers’ Digest Version: Continue to steer clear.
Pacify: t’ang lung; we can supply these.
Salt Water Cure; we can send you instructions.
No Fire: avoid bright light.

Good Timing

Good Timing

Selecting Auspicious and Personalised Dates,

One-day Zoom live Workshop with Richard Ashworth,

Saturday 25th (UK & Europe) 10a.m BST & Sunday 26th June (World) 3p.m.BST

Basic familiarity with Heavenly Stems & Earthly Branches required.

At 12:59pm on the 6th January 2021 Donald Trump’s followers stormed the Capitol: a very precise moment, observing many of the astrological and other indications of a day for a putsch. As indeed did the 24th February when Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine. In both cases a series of conventions appear to have been followed in keeping with the ancient art of ze ri or Date Selection, presumably in order to make the date fit the objective. Somebody knew what they were doing.

Making the date fit the objective of course is a useful procedure for more routine activities: choosing day for a house move, surgery or marriage for instance. Or you may simply want to have some idea of what the day ahead has in store.

I share something like this via Twitter, FaceBook & Linked In every day:

Fri 11th Mar, Water Pig, Neck, Success (3) ***** Generally favourable.

Very helpful including for placing long term Water. Water Pig doesn’t know how to seek assistance and Pig day pickles Pigs. Offering help wherever you see it needed, especially if unrequested, pays back 10-fold.

Activity: Rabbit due East for energy & persistence. Special assistance: Rabbit, Sheep, Horse. In any pillar.

All I’m doing here is assessing Stem & Branch, Daily Officer, Mansion of the Moon, Dong Gong and a variety of other considerations and then stirring in a pinch of woo-woo, intuition or what-have-you. Sometimes these notes written weeks ahead are eerily accurate. It requires attention but it’s not rocket science.

If you are interested in either daily forecasts or more ambitious prediction, this Zoom workshop will equip you with the tools. Which is where the real work starts of course.

If you have a working knowledge of Stems and Branches and would like to know more about letting good timing work for you, do contact: sheilaashworthfengshui@gmail.com

I hope to meet you then,

Best wishes,

Richard A.

Via Zoom only
Lasts approx. 6 hours with approx a 1 hour break.

Saturday 25th June will start at 10am (BST).

Sunday 26th June will start at 3pm (15:00 BST).

Water Rabbit lo shu
The Month of the Water Rabbit
The Tiger approaches the reactor.
You’ll have noticed that last month’s forecast was worryingly accurate. Frankly I could do without being right about such things.

Some words of comfort:
The current violence is the last kick of a way of running the world that is out of date.

Technically, during the Chinese 8th Fate Period which drops away between 2016 and 2024, power comes from the North East and travels South West. You might see that as quite literal: the bulk of Europe’s oil and gas come from Russia. You might also see it as consistent with the flight of any number of New Agers from Europe to South America around this time, my own niece among them.

Feng shui works on a variety of levels, as you know and this month’s suggestions have particularly international application. And obviously it’s fine to ignore the wider implications if your focus is personal, domestic or commercial.

In a fresh Tiger year like this one, that directional thrust is doubled up. But it doesn’t last.

The Rabbit Month can be one of accepting the damage done and the Water Rabbit Year of 2023 can be similar; there will be mending to do. The Dragon of April however brings transformation: what was always this way has always been another way. Let’s focus on that. Elsewhere in this bulletin I’ve shared some ideas as to how to address minimising the damage and hastening renewed peace.

FYI: The actual date of invasion – 24th February – was very similar in construction to the 6th January 2021 which you’ll recall brought a smaller incursion. My guess is that Putin and Trump share a Chinese Astrologer. Their ba zis are also strangely linked. But that’s for another day.

The burst of expansion from the North East has limited life-expectancy. The Dragon of April brings transformation. Meanwhile the Water Rabbit presides over the final gasp of misused power. Like you, I regret that anyone has had to go through that.
Richard Ashworth 4th March 2022.

The Month of the Water Rabbit, Animal by Animal:
These generic forecasts carry different nuances dependent upon whether this Animal rules your Year, Month, Day, Hour or Life House.

Rabbit (1951, 63, 75, 87, 99; births in March*, 5-7am & on certain days#), Could be scary. You have just as much power as you need. Pace yourself.

Dragon (1952, 64, 76, 88, 2000; births in April* 7-9am & on certain days#) Employed or exploited is simply a question of approach.

Snake (1941,53, 65, 77, 89; births in May*, 9-11am & on certain days#) Confusing; on the wrong end of proxy disputes. Practise fairness and informed judgement.

Horse (1942, 54, 66, 78, 90; births in June*, around midday & on certain days#) stops and starts; that’s just for now. Put top tasks on hold if necessary.

Sheep (1943, 55, 67, 79, 91; births in July*, 1-3pm & on certain days#) demand fair reward, be aware of unprofitable blandishment.

Monkey (1944, 56, 68, 80, 92; births in August*, 3-5pm & on certain days#) less resistance than before, drive carefully just the same.

Rooster (1945, 57, 69, 81, 93; births in September*, 5-7pm & on certain days#) Under-promise, over-deliver for a smooth-running month.

Dog (1946, 58, 70, 84, 96; births in October*, 7-9pm & on certain days#) Could be torn between paths, tasks, jobs, careers, lovers. Choice is yours.

Pig (1947, 59, 71, 83, 95; births in November*, 9-11pm & on certain days#) Multiple pulls: artistic/administrative risk/play safe. Risk may pay off.

Rats (1948, 60, 72, 84, 96; births in December* 11pm-1am & on certain days#). Parental issues – both ways round. Or more.

Ox (1949, 61, 73, 85, 97; births in January*, 1-3am & on certain days#) Observe, mind your own business, don’t overestimate your influence.

Tiger (1950, 62, 74, 86, 98; births in February*, 3-5am & on certain days#) Traffic flowing better. Possible hiccups – think ahead, detach. Danger of over-reach.
* Chinese Solar Months start later than European ones. #You’ll need help or a Chinese Calendar for this.

Special Days in March:
Especially helpful

Friday 11th March, Water Pig, Neck, Success (3) ***** Generally favourable.
Very helpful including for placing long term Water. Water Pig doesn’t know how to seek assistance and Pig day pickles Pigs. A day to offer help wherever you see it needed, especially if unrequested.
Activity: Rabbit due East for energy & persistence.
Special assistance: Rabbit, Sheep, Horse.
In any pillar.

Not so helpful.
Tuesday 15th March, Fire Rabbit, Tail, Establish (7) *** false dawn.
One more push perhaps but not too soon. Some serendipity for those in need of Fire or Wood. Seek that which has been ignored or appears restless.
Activity: North West to draw attention.
Caution: Dragon, Rooster.

Where to locate in March
North East, Wealth Star: Tai sui (Tiger) or Year Star: 8 Month Star: 4.
This month the NE is best suited to two things:
1. Learning, research and investigation, especially if there are shaped conifers to the exterior; you can place miniatures on the window sill if not. These are termed “education trees” and mimic the shape of a calligrapher’s brush.
2. That windowsill is also where you might put a Ukrainian flag as part of a procedure known as “metonymy”, placing a miniature of the place to be affected on the compass point concerned. Qin Shi Huang Di of Terracotta Army fame was a big user of metonymy while he was setting China up for longterm unification 2200 years ago. Seemed to work.

Where not to locate in March
South, Bright Future: Year Star: 9 Month Star: 5.
Poor star combination this month: the 9 magnifies and the 5 brings all kinds of no good. Best not to linger South. Or by analogy, to seek attention, as embarrassment rather than celebrity is the likely outcome.
Mitigate: t’ang lung or Metal

Water Tiger Month Lo Shu

The Month of the Water Tiger
So now a Water Tiger Month opens a Water Tiger Year; a double dose of restless yang Wood and a foreshadowing of the year itself which of course is full of problems global, social and domestic that call for urgent attention. You can observe the changes day by day as the month wears on. They may offer some inkling as to the progress of the whole year. But it’s a year and month of big challenge.

The Tiger is fierce, patient and farsighted. Tiger Mother is for instance a byword for tough love. The Tiger is yang Wood which means it moves fast and much, in between periods of stillness. The Tiger’s time is first and second thing, when rest turns to motion. We prepare for and enter the day and by some accounts the Year, with the Tiger. Expect rapid movement and rapid change this month and expect it to be reflected in the year as a whole. This year we solve, mitigate or ignore the twin challenges of climate change and inequality, two puzzles which may distil to the same essence.

The Tiger sits in the North East which is where the most powerful energy originates this year, like a gale blowing South West. The term usually employed for the presiding Animal is tai sui or Great Year, a year, if you will, of twelve years. Just as the Tiger Month marks the return of vitality and birth, so a Tiger Year ends the long Winter of the last three years. We are emerging into light and motion. Optimism is not beyond reach.

As this Month and Year are Water Tigers, Wood predominates. Water gives birth to Wood, allows it to grow, for the limbs to flex and journeys to proceed. We know our plants are alive because they are moving, that is growing. This is true only of Wood: animals don’t grow forever, stones and ponds don’t grow at all. Wood is in constant motion, feeding on Water, the resources of the Earth and the Fire of the Sun.

The centre of the luo shu (or magic square) of Year and Month hold respectively the wu huang or 5 Yellow and the motherly 2. Some read this conjunction as sickness. Best anyway to stay away from centres, HQs, capitals and the tai chi. Has there ever been a more clear indication from the universe to work from home if you can?  Nonetheless I’m more inclined to focus on the 2’s nurturing and concern, she is yin Earth, the Universal Mother.

And on the sheer power of the 5 Star. The Tao doesn’t appear to have a moral or indeed any other kind of viewpoint, so damage is surely not what the wu huang represents. The 5 is more like a nuclear power station: we want warm Water but best not sit on the reactor. Translated for domestic use: face the tai chi but don’t occupy it.

The Hexagram* common to Year and Month is Number 13 Tong Ren, Union of Men, a call to assembly and common purpose. That’s the only way we’re going to get through this.
Monthly Book of Changes Interpretation Workshops start early March. Join us.
Richard Ashworth 3rd February 2022.
*ie specific to the Water Tiger rather than all Tigers.

The Month of the Water Tiger, Animal by Animal:
These generic forecasts carry different nuances dependent upon whether this Animal rules your Year, Month, Day, Hour or Life House.

Tiger (1950, 62, 74, 86, 98; births in February*, 3-5am & on certain days#) Fully charged; start making plans that take you into 2024. And act upon them.

Rabbit (1951, 63, 75, 87, 99; births in March*, 5-7am & on certain days#) Demanded of; perhaps overly but rising to it takes you places you had only dreamed of.

Dragon (1952, 64, 76, 88, 2000; births in April* 7-9am & on certain days#) Yield to make progress; truth is at premium.

Snake (1941,53, 65, 77, 89; births in May*, 9-11am & on certain days#) Waking from slumber empowered. Pick up the threads. Some hindrance.

Horse (1942, 54, 66, 78, 90; births in June*, around midday & on certain days#) Fully powered; use power wisely and ensure its longevity.

Sheep (1943, 55, 67, 79, 91; births in July*, 1-3pm & on certain days#) If you enter with good intentions so will everybody else.

Monkey (1944, 56, 68, 80, 92; births in August*, 3-5pm & on certain days#) facing into the prevailing wind; tack and you progress.

Rooster (1945, 57, 69, 81, 93; births in September*, 5-7pm & on certain days#) You may feel kind of irrelevant; you’re not but you may be distracted.

Dog (1946, 58, 70, 84, 96; births in October*, 7-9pm & on certain days#) Directed, focused: run!

Pig (1947, 59, 71, 83, 95; births in November*, 9-11pm & on certain days#) Full steam ahead; expect support, serendipity and the legacy of your best behaviour.

Rats (1948, 60, 72, 84, 96; births in December* 11pm-1am & on certain days#). 3rd party disputes. Easy to waste time. Unhelpful distractions.

Ox (1949, 61, 73, 85, 97; births in January*, 1-3am & on certain days#) Time to rest & trust as the year unfolds in ways that are hard to scry. Breaks come & go, pay attention.
* Chinese Months start later than European ones. # You’ll need help or a Chinese Calendar for this
Special Days in February:

Especially helpful

Sunday 13th February, Fire Rooster, House, Danger (4) **** Risky.
Quid pro quo; don’t price yourself out of the market but don’t sell yourself short either.
Activity: not today.
Special Favour:
Earth(89) Metal(41) Water(53) Snake
All Oxen,
All Dragons, the flexible.
In any Pillar

Not so helpful.

Monday 7th February, Metal Rabbit, Bow, Remove (7) ***** Hurried.
Yin Wood in Yang Wood Month & Year – just too much. Danger of overwhelm. Do as little as necessary & be kind to yourself.
Activity:     NW for assistance.
Favours:     no one much.

Where to locate in February

East, Ambition: Year Star: 3 Month Star: 9. Sun (Rabbit E2),
Young men flourish this month, especially Pigs and especially here in the East where Wood is at its purest. Kuas 3, 4 & 9 probably gain most: promotions, accomplishment and recognition. Again settle here to get a job done; rise early, decorate with Wood i.e. live plants – three is a good number. Add Water, even a fountain and perhaps blue décor) plus Wood e.g three leafy plants. Don’t overheat.

Where not to locate in February

North East, Wealth Star: Tai sui (Tiger) or Year Star: 8 Month Star: 5.
As tricky as the North East gets this year. You should only be occupying NE2 or NE3 (ie approx 40-65º NE) anyway. East Group decamp South, West Group South West. There will nonetheless be days of great creativity here this month, principally the 5th & 23rd.
Reduce negative impact: with t’ang lung, Chue cure for the wu huang.

Only in Dreams: Divining from the Book of Changes in 2022

January 19, 2022

Only in Dreams – Deeper into the Book of Changes.

Monthly One-Hour Group Zoom Sessions in 2022/23

The story is told that one warm afternoon the sage Zhuang Tze dreamed that he was a butterfly.  We are not told quite what that experience may have been like but what we do know is that henceforth he claimed to be uncertain whether he was a philosopher awoken from a dream or a butterfly dreaming he was Zhuang Tze.

We sleep perhaps one third of our lives. And some of us get quite excited about the meanings of our dreams. But what about the other two thirds? If the universe is talking to us why would it limit itself to the waking hours?

The diviner, by which I mean someone who interprets the messages the universe sends us from time to time, may employ any of a number of methods: palmistry, tarot cards, runes, crystals, flame and water and a thousand others. But perhaps the most accessible is the Yi or Book of Changes, sometimes called the I Ching.

Starting March 2nd 2022 I will be hosting a series of twelve monthly group Zoom sessions of divination by way of the Yi.

These sessions will come from a very different place than last year’s more academic series. We will be using the Yi to interpret the waking dream,

Life is made up of dilemmas; we solve one, we progress to the next, sometimes we get stuck. The Yi consists of sixty four images or guas, each of which reflects a human experience, often a quandary. Number 34 for instance Da Zhuang marks a moment of great but passing power. How do we employ it? Can we retain it? What mistakes are we most likely to make? Is there assistance available?

Each session will be an hour long, the format will be very simple: two participants bring to each session for interpretation a Hexagram they have cast. We will aim to make sense of the readings by looking at structure as well as traditional and other meanings and taking the odd leap in the dark. At first it will be mostly me, I expect, but by the twelfth one I’m anticipating we’ll all be pitching in. Join us.

The cost will be £375, for the series of 12 Zoom sessions;

Early Bird (payable by February 1st) £350.

About IFSA UK Chapter
The IFSA is a non-profit organisation that was founded in Singapore on the 8th of May 2004 by a passionate community of Feng Shui masters, practitioners, academics, and other experts in Chinese metaphysics. Its aim is to assist the global cultivation, awareness and appreciation of traditional Chinese Feng Shui and to foster the highest standards of competence and practice within this industry.

The IFSA also aims to assist all classical Feng Shui Practitioners, by engaging in various events and educational activities designed to promote traditional Chinese Feng Shui. One of its aims is also to spread awareness that classical Feng Shui has specific formulae and systems that have worked for thousands of years, and don’t depend on intuition or newly made-up rules which may or may not work.

The benefits of being a member include:

  1. Being a member of a chapter of a reliable international organisation headed by no less than 4 Feng Shui Grandmasters (GM Tan Khoon Yong, GM Vincent Koh, GM Raymond Lo, GM Dr Stephen Skinner).
  2. IFSA across the world has many chapters.  The membership base of the IFSA encompasses much of the globe with chapters in Australia, Singapore, US, Japan, Poland, Mauritius, Romania, with many members in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Estonia, France, Greece, Mexico, Germany, Dubai, India, and Indonesia, making the IFSA a truly International Feng Shui organisation. From the 20th of October of last year, we now have a chapter in the UK too.
  3. IFSA-UK Chapter will have a regular calendar of events starting with an online gathering on the 4th of February 2022, with introductions to all members, and three presentations on classical Feng Shui, one of which will be from me on the use of the winter solstice charts for predicting the following year and, arguably, the Nine Fate. This will be followed with a calendar of short speeches peppered through the year from masters across the world (via Zoom or face to face, depending on ease and feasibility), and an annual event.
  4. Access to friendship and community, with other members with the same interests in Feng Shui, Ba Zi, Qi Men Dun Jia, Yi Jing, Xuan Gong Da Gua, etc.
  5. Regular online catch ups/face to face meets (when Covid is no longer an issue) – where you will be able to share your experiences in classical Feng Shui, and learn from fellow members, as well as speakers from other chapters.
  6. Availability of specialist classes (online and otherwise) designed to enhance your existing Feng Shui skills.
  7. Access to an online Facebook closed group that allows you to ask questions (at whatever level) and to receive answers from acknowledged Masters.
  8. Reduced rates at the annual International Feng Shui Convention in 2022 and, presumably, future years.  All being well, this Convention will be held on Zoom as well as by personal attendance, bearing in mind the current pandemic.
  1. Discounted purchase of the first Luo Pan authored by GM Dr Stephen Skinner and Master Dr Jin Peh and accompanied by a manual giving full details of the method of use for every ring.
  2. And for those practicing feng shui as a business:
    1. Membership cards, photograph and brief outline on the IFSA website.
    2. Certification when certain levels of competence are reached, which can then be displayed in your office, as a credential.

The Month of the Metal Ox
Essentially a recap of the Metal Ox Year 2021. What was learned and what missed? Kind of a second chance. Here are a few echoes to watch out for.

  • Bitcoin (the Metal concealed within the 2021 Metal Ox) ended the year on a high which may mean it will climb further this month.
  • Rats like Prince Andrew found that they were at the mercy of the agendas of others as Rats do in Ox years. HRH could well end up under the Royal bus by Feb 4th.
  • Those Fire Dogs of 1946 (such as Trump, Bill Clinton & GW Bush) who presided over the post-Vietnam age of greed and scorched Earth, end the Ox Year twitching but burnt out. The delusion of ceaseless increases in GDP is blown. The Earth is round, resources are finite.
  • As we enter the 9th Fate of the Chinese Cycle, climate change has become the most urgent topic. Any mitigation of the damage already inevitable is attributable to the efforts of the young – youth being one of the attributes of the Ox. To identify those who will force the changes necessary, look for births between 1986 and 1995. Echoes of Cop 26 obviously enough fall into the final third of this month.

In our own lives we may also notice echoes. As I write in the first few days of this Metal Ox month, I’m considering how the year began. What’s to learn? What to clear up? Often greater clarity is gained by entering an Alpha meditative state. If you’re not adept at this, try listening to poignant music – especially music that means something to you – as you examine the year.

As the month wears on I’ll be looking at last spring, then summer and autumn and finally around Feb 1st, this very moment. Quick thinkers may have already realised that February, a Water Tiger just like the Year, may offer some foreshadowing. Watch this space. FYI: I’m hosting Only in Dreams, a brand new series of  Monthly Book of Changes Interpretation Workshops starting early March).

The Ox – Month, Year or Day – also represents consistency, fertility and sensitivity, none of these qualities associated particularly with the coming Tiger of 2022. Ox means watershed too; we are programmed to overeat around the Solstice and sleep it off till February – January can be such a sleepy month, hard to get things done. An Ox Year can serve a similar function – lucid dreaming ahead of action. The coming Tiger is a beast both patient and able to leap into motion in an instant. A year of action – rather than dialogue – is coming. So let’s be kind to ourselves for now; a Month that recaps the Year can be very helpful.

Now while the qi is subdued is also the time to make the feng shui changes to your space for the New Year. Restart your journeys in the new pattern; occupy the helpful areas (South is a likely contender but much depends on your individual environment); shun the centres of things, headquarters, capitals and your own tai chi. Some helpful procedures are unique to this year.

Ride that Tiger!

The Month of the Metal Ox, Animal by Animal:
These generic forecasts carry different nuances dependent upon whether this Animal rules your Year, Month, Day, Hour or Life House.

Ox (1949, 61, 73, 85, 97; births in January*, 1-3am & on certain days#) Last month of disproportionate influence. Think ahead, use power with long term forethought.

Tiger (1950, 62, 74, 86, 98; births in February*, 3-5am & on certain days#) To a great extent already in charge. Retract claws for now at least.

Rabbit (1951, 63, 75, 87, 99; births in March*, 5-7am & on certain days#) Possibly confrontational; romantic opportunity for male Rabbit, female Rat.

Dragon (1952, 64, 76, 88, 2000; births in April* 7-9am & on certain days#) Obstructions.

Snake (1941,53, 65, 77, 89; births in May*, 9-11am & on certain days#) Fresh start, supported, encouraged.

Horse (1942, 54, 66, 78, 90; births in June*, around midday & on certain days#) Proxy fights – for better or worse.

Sheep (1943, 55, 67, 79, 91; births in July*, 1-3pm & on certain days#) Excluded but only briefly.

Monkey (1944, 56, 68, 80, 92; births in August*, 3-5pm & on certain days#) you are better understood than is likely later in the year. Capitalise.

Rooster (1945, 57, 69, 81, 93; births in September*, 5-7pm & on certain days#) You can strut safely.

Dog (1946, 58, 70, 84, 96; births in October*, 7-9pm & on certain days#) Tripping over stuff.

Pig (1947, 59, 71, 83, 95; births in November*, 9-11pm & on certain days#) Still not quite your moment but it’s very close. Some clear indications this month.

Rats (1948, 60, 72, 84, 96; births in December* 11pm-1am & on certain days#). Caution serves you best but your agenda is still not quite your own.

* Chinese Months start later than European ones. # You’ll need help or a Chinese Calendar for this.

Special Days in January:
Especially helpful

Saturday 8th January, Metal Rooster, Willow, Success (4) **** Helpful.
Showtime. A day that fosters display above modesty. Set out your stall. Equally a time to be gracious when favoured in order to forestall resentment later. Roosters: tone it down; Others: push the boat out.
Activity:     Ox (NE1 around NNE 30º) for balance.
Favours:     Snake, Ox, Dragon
Special Favour:
Earth(89) Metal(41) Snake,
Metal(61) Water(73) Wood(85) Ox
Metal(40) Water(52) Wood(64) Dragon, the non-linear.
In any Pillar

 Not so helpful.

Sunday 23rd January, Fire Rat, Void, Closed (1) *** frustrating.
There’s a tendency to act rashly, arrive too early or blurt today. One statement too many could give away the farm today.
Activity: Ox NE1 (NNE around 30º) to stick to the point – and no more.
Favours: no one much.
Trickiest for: Horse, Sheep, those who don’t pace themselves.
Some advantage:
Water(92) Wood(44) Fire(56) Monkey,
Water(72) Wood(84) Fire(96) Rat,
Metal((40) Water(52) Wood(64) Dragon;
Metal(61) Water(73) Ox.
In any Pillar.

Where to locate in January

North East, Wealth Star: Tai sui (Tiger) or Year Star: 8 Month Star: 6.
The 8 blesses, the 6 rules: all things being equal this again is where to be this month. It’s prosperous and powerful. Simplest enhancement is Water to create a 1:6:8 combination. Big breaks for Pigs at NE3 (the 3rd segment clockwise of the North East), Horses and Rats (at NE1) but also those with ba zis heavy with Wood – like the Tiger Year itself. The tai sui btw is usually a perfectly sound location to occupy but a lethal one to face – this year don’t position yourself to face anywhere between 52½º and 67½º NE but locating anywhere NE has promise. Good for business and creativity but also as ever, the default position for meditation, prayer and Alpha-rhythm activities.
Maximise: with Water: a bowl changed daily. Occupy, keep active.

Where not to locate in January

Tai chi, Home, the centre: Year Star: 5 Month Star: 3. Year Wu huang.
The 5 at the tai chi brings a re-boot of sorts as each of the nine Stars returns home. Which puts the chaotic 5 or wu huang back at the heart of things of course; all year. A certain amount of taming can be done; I recommend the t’ang lung obelisks (a chue cure for the wu huang or 5 Yellow) and you can try a salt water cure – messy but often effective – but mostly I’d say stay out and keep the area quiet. Occupation for better or worse is often the most powerful way to activate the 5 or any Star. Other strategies depend upon your individual circumstances but any activation of the tai chi may end in tears. By extension take care to avoid centres, HQs, capitals etc – this makes working at home a no-brainer of course. If you can.
We’re all faced with these problems to a greater or lesser extent all year,
Pacify: t’ang lung; we can supply these.
Salt Water Cure; we can send you instructions.
Metal: such as a 6-Pipe Metal windchime tends to mitigate the rogue Earth of the 5.
Stay out!
