The Year of the Mutt, Earth Dog Forecast Day 2018

November 21, 2017

A Day with Richard Ashworth:
The Year of the Mutt, Earth Dog Forecast Day 2018,
Sat December 2nd, The Pepperpot, Godalming.

On the 2nd December in person (repeated 3rd of December via Zoom), I will be discussing the forthcoming year of The Earth Dog and how you can prepare for it.
The Earth Dog is resolute. She is restless and immovable, an uneasy combination; which may be why so many powerful women were born under this sign; they just don’t know how to give up. The emerging 9th Fate continues to make this the Age of Woman and 2018 will see that re-balancing proceed.

In 2018 a house facing South East may be favoured. There are however many ways to harness the fresh energy which we will be discussing. Similarly Rabbits may find themselves with some sort of free ticket and the Dragon may feel challenged. None of this is written in stone however, as you will learn.

Globally we can expect the establishment to be shaken but not stirred. The map suggests trouble in North Korea (no prizes for that) but also Venezuela, Morocco, Nepal and among the Uighurs of Western China. Unbalanced Dogs like Donald Trump will tend to continue to shy away from self-awareness and Horses such as Angela Merkel may chase their own tails. The central model is 60-year cycle and sixty years ago, in 1958 there were American boots on the ground in Lebanon. A troubling thought.

As the sage wrote, the only constant is change, so for each country, each occupation and each individual there will be fresh opportunities. Whether these prove positive or otherwise is a question of our choice in reacting to them. Though we all have preferences the tao is generally without bias.

If there is a point in knowing Classical Chinese Feng Shui it is surely to make our lives and those around us happier, healthier, wealthier and wiser. As it happens in 2017 the Roosters of 1957 hit 60 (that is the end of their first cycle). In a sense this means they landed back in the late 1950’s with the opportunity to pick up on the lessons missed first time round. This principle made the previous year 2016 an interesting one for 1956 Fire Monkey Theresa May and understanding it, the Qing Emperor Qian Loong actually retired to grow vegetables after ruling from 1733 to 1793. This applies to each of us of course; where in that cycle of 60 years are you as you read this? 2018 may be a turning point.

Horticulture may not be your idea of a good time but you might like to join us in any case on December 2nd  in Godalming (repeated online via Zoom on the 3rd) to examine how the coming year is likely to affect you, your family, your business and the world.

The Tiger Month
Animal by Animal
During this Water Tiger Month,
The Rat moves to a distance,
The Ox decelerates,
You Tigers know your rights,
The smart Rabbit is using every moment wisely,
The Dragon begins to relax,
The Snake reaches for the sky,
The Horse may be startled,
The Sheep can advance once more,
The Monkey knows the limits,
The Rooster may still not get it,
The Dog protects the defenceless. Or not,
and
The Pig sees many more alternatives.

Update: BASHIR NADERI
Unbelievably Bashir has been refused leave to stay in the UK– he’s been here since he was 10 and speaks no Afghan languages – but this is the surreal world of 2017. His lawyers continue to appeal. You can help by Tweeting #supportbashir, making his case your FaceBook status or writing to your local MP, Amber Rudd the Home Secretary  or anybody who you think might be able to help the cause.

Know your inner beast. How Tiger are you?
Birth in the Tiger Hour (3-5am)~: a risk of children being distant.
Birth on the Tiger Day#: the relentless pursuer of justice.
Birth during the Tiger Month (February)*: work relies on appointment.
Birth in the Tiger Year: vision, patience, familiarity with hierarchies.
~ GMT. # You’ll need a Chinese calendar for this. * Caution: Chinese months start later.

Where to do what, when and why
Summary: Here’s where to go to stimulate creativity.
North, Distant Future: Year Star 6, Moon. Month Star: 4.
The North is helpful pretty much all year with the annual 6 offering supportive authority while the Moon maintains order. This month’s 4 brings curiosity, invention and as the sex-mad Chinese guys have it, scandal. The 4 and the 6 make a “perfect” 10, so facing or locating North will tend to support you whoever you are but especially those with East Group kuas (1, 3, 4 & 9) engaged in imaginative and creative pursuits.
Annual Solution: Large (6kg+) rose quartz, a little Metal, occasional Water.
Monthly Enhancement: Four plants (eg bamboos in Water). Follow the 4.

East and West Groups: Everybody falls into either the East or the West Group by virtue of their birth date. The calculation is simple but if you do want to know where you belong, email me at richardashworth@imperialfengshui.info.
Readers Digest version: East Group people best face East, South, South-East and North and/or in buildings and beds backing onto these directions. West Group vice-versa. Sorry it’s fiddly, I’m not making this stuff up.

Shaken but not stirred.
“One day when you conquer yourself and return to true order, the whole world will revert to humanity.”
Liu I-Ming.

The Tiger never forgets; a favour, a slight, the right order of things. The Tiger understands power and hierarchies. The Tiger knows that Might may not be Right but it can be pretty persuasive. It’s the Tiger’s neighbour the Rabbit (whose month follows next) who believes that the pen is mightier than the sword; the Tiger is not so sure. These are the keynotes of any Tiger month but especially this one; personally, domestically, internationally.

In February my schedule usually eases up. The changes for the New Year are done, Animal Fortunes are out and I can concentrate on other stuff. I’ve neglected some longstanding clients, I have a book to write and one or two personal annual forecasts to draft. These call for close attention because they have to be accurate and precise. I’ve lost count of the annual forecast events I’ve attended where a Master’s wisdom amounts to: “The people won’t like the government, markets will go up and down and Water Element businesses may do quite well.” Not that much help in navigating the year. My personal forecasts have to be ….well….personal.

Technically this is a Water Tiger month with an 8 lo shu (or magic square). The 8 is hopeful. It means that what happens at the centres of things – nations and cities as well as your home – tend to be purposeful, even if it looks otherwise. It may help to take the longer view and we of course can intervene in a number of ways.

Interestingly there are only a few individual days that are universally helpful – the 12th and the 24th are about it – but many that will boost particular Animals. You need to know about this, especially if you are a Rabbit or Dog (Hello Donald Trump) for which you need my bulletins which will tell you, among much else, that Dragons who are on a roll this year, might reserve the 14th and 18th for a big putsch; Rabbits the 9th and 13th. The Rat gets a pretty good shake throughout, as do certain Tigers.

To summarise we’re entering a competitive time, consistent with the Tiger’s contentious nature and the showiness of the Rooster. What to do about it room by room, building by building is also in my Weekly and Monthly Bulletins which are available at modest cost, by subscription. There’s a sample below of the full What to do where, when and indeed why feature that we send out along with a great deal more information to subscribers every month. Out in the world,Anchor expect the above trends to be reflected – there’s little co-operation going on and such as there is may prove quite grudging.

Animal Fortunes for the Rooster year remain on the website all year: 2017: Year of the Turkey. Use wisely.

What to do where and indeed why in the month of the Water Tiger.
Summary
This Tiger month features an 8 lo shu. As a rule the 8 – infinity on its side, the endless knot – is considered fortuitous. It’s Earth, so it needs a bit of attention but it’ll offer help if we treat it right. What would that be? Well, Earth is supported by Fire but we don’t position Fire at the tai chi. As Master Chan Kun Wah used to say: we don’t burn the heart. Fortunately however Wood stimulates Earth, so, all other things being equal, I’d put a little Wood there, in the geometric centre. Some of you will already, for related reasons, have four bamboos in Water there. If so, leave them. Otherwise one plant right at dead centre. Make sure it gets enough light or the metaphor will be all wrong. Wood is always growing, so planks and batons and rolling pins are not what’s intended. One plant in decent light and attended. Abundance is a much bigger issue than simple wealth but expect good things. And in this year of the Watery 1, expect creativity of all sorts, most particularly the written word.
Enhance with: a single healthy plant. Fresh cut flowers will do fine.

Location by Location
North West, Authority: Year Star: 2, Sun, Month Star: 9.
The 9 Star, as you know, represents the near future. Having landed in the NW, it’s now, as you also know, in the realm of the Father. The annual Sun ensures this is a location of healing throughout 2017 whatever else is going on. But right now a house facing NW or with a busy door oriented that way will tend to be characterized by a need to plan. Those in authority would do well to look to the bigger picture and being or facing here will help, also spending time in a NW-facing building. Those who wish to be in a position of authority a little way down the line would do well to plot here now.
Month Solution: Bright light but you’ll risk mild illness along with more positive acquisition. Otherwise……
Annual Solution: Red 6 (six Chinese coins tied up with red thread) and wu lou (gourd) are reckoned effective against the 2.

West, Intervention: Year Star: 3 Year, toe far, tai sui, tin yute. Month Star: 1.
West remains okay to occupy (although a dangerous direction to face) because it’s where the strongest annual energy, the tai sui is coming from. During 2017 the Noble Helper tin yute gwai yan – makes it the place to seek help, when the source may not be clear – as well as the toe far of new relationship – especially for Rat, Dragon and Monkey. For these objectives locate yourself West but don’t face West, employ a West-facing door or occupy a West-facing building. In any case expect some conflict, due to the stroppy 3 Star but (this month) it’s the place for problem-solving discussion.
Month Solution: Metal stuff plus 6-Pipe Metal Windchime or bright light.
Annual Solution: Bright, light, red stuff to express 3’s strop healthily.

North East, Wealth Star: Year Star: 4 gip sat, Month Star: 2.
Much better than 2016 especially if yours is a West Group kua (8,6,7,2). But this month may bring blockage as well as growth of all sorts, positive and negative. It may still not be before March that occupants of the North East, those who face that way or live in NE-facing buildings will experience much advantage. But it will come; those qualities of invention, curiosity and academic success that attach to the young female are here for a while. Er..and scandal. But right now mostly blockage or growth.
Month Solution: Add Metal – Metal stuff plus 6-Pipe Metal Windchime, clockwork music box or mechanical clock, wu lou or Red 6.
Annual Enhancement: Fire, (eg bright light). 4 Plants (eg 4 bamboos in Water).

South, Bright Future: Year Star: 5 wu huang, Month Star: 3.
The 5 is not much fun for anybody and it’s hard to neutralize, though Metal objects and wu lous are reckoned to help. Continue to treat the South with delicacy Don’t over-activate, especially do not dig or drill; even if yours is an East Group kua: 1, 3, 4 & 9. South door much the same effect. Overuse could lead to embarrassment and/or bad publicity; this month for the younger man who is represented by the confrontational 3.
Month Solution: The Fire of bright light will draw out the 3’s aggression but is equally likely to bring on the delay and sickness of the 5. Best to stay out and keep it quiet.
Annual Solution: Metallic objects may soften the 5. I use a chue cure: the t’ang lung, a charm which I have made up for me in very precise dimensions. Worth considering as the South – fame, publicity, promotion – is going to be risky all year.

North, Distant Future: Year Star 6, Moon. Month Star: 4.
The North is better this year with a year-long 6 and the Moon maintaining order. The arriving 4 brings curiosity, invention and as the sex-mad Chinese guys have it, scandal. The 4 and the 6 make a “perfect” 10, so facing or locating North will support anyone. Especially East Group kuas (1, 3, 4 & 9) in imaginative and creative pursuits.
Annual Solution: A large (6kg+) rose quartz, a little Metal, occasional Water.
Monthly Solution: Four plants (eg bamboos in Water). Follow the 4.

South West, Accumulation: Year Star: 7, Month Star: 5.
The 7 which augurs interference, fire and robbery in the worst cases, promises interference all year even for the favoured West Group kuas 2, 6, 7 and 8 And the 5 makes it worse. Poor as a location or facing direction – above all for the older woman.
Annual Solution: Water (not fountain – eg fresh Water changed daily).
Monthly Solution: Metal stuff, a mechanical clock, musical box.

East, Ambition: Year Star: 8 san sha, sui po, Month Star: 6.
Good location favours East Group kuas: 1, 3, 4 & 9 as well as certain Pigs, Dogs and Sheep all year. But because of the baddies above – san sha, sui po – continue to treat gently. The Eldest Son, creativity, learning, training and associated aspirations are favoured here all year. Good direction to face also.
Annual and Monthly Solution: Water (a fountain is good all year).

South East, Determination: Year Star: 9 Dragon Virtue, Month Star: 7.
Best front door and generally the best direction to face all year, especially if you want to be known. Dragon Virtue supports the good reputation of all, kuas 1 3 4 and 9 in particular as well as certain Monkeys, Rats, Snakes, Roosters and Oxen (Dragons may find it competitive – not that that’s necessarily bad). All year the place to be noticed in a positive way. Not at its best this month as there may be frustration due to the 7.
Month Solution: Clockwork (eg a music box).
Annual Enhancement: 4 Plants (eg bamboo stems) or a Water fountain.

2017, the Fire Rooster: the Year of the Turkey.
What to do next?

Tune-Ups, Bulletins, Studying Ba Zi & Feng Shui, Retainers
with Richard Ashworth in 2017.

A South-Eastern door looks helpful in 2017 – but how do you enhance it? Dragons and Snakes look set but what about Rabbits and the Roosters themselves? How do we capitlaise on the fresh energy? In answer to such questions, here are some ways we might work together this year:

 1. A Tune-Up survey brings your work or living space into the Year of the Fire Rooster. Richard identifies the spots that need attention and attends to them or tells you what to do. If we’ve mapped it already, this will take 2-4 hours and we’ll charge you less. Otherwise set the controls for ½ a day.

2. A subscription to our Monthly and Weekly Bulletins will tell you week by week and month by month, where to do what, when and often why. This can be very useful for planning travel and crucial meetings.

3. Studying feng shui or ba zi; we run starter courses on each which are available as a group “live” thing from time to time or (constantly) via Skype/Zoom. Both bought together will cost you less.

4. Hand-drafted ba zi and consultation, one to one. Ba zi of course plots the cycle of time as it applies to you and will tend to show major milestones, preferences and blockages. The ba zi is perhaps the very best device there is for identifying major moments of choice. And doing something about them. A follow-up session, if Richard has already drafted your ba zi is often a good way to start the year.

5. Soul Retainer. For a single annual payment or monthly payments, you receive a Tune-Up, Monthly and Weekly Bulletins and a further four hours one-to-one over the year as well as attendance at next year’s Forecast Weekend.

Read Your Individual Animal Forecast for 2017

Animal Fortunes for 2017, The Fire Rooster,
the Year of the Turkey.
“If we meet evil before it becomes reality- before it has even begun to stir – we can master it.”
The Book of Changes Hexagram 19.

Go Directly To Your Animal Fortune for 2017 here.

Everyone knows that the Chinese New Year falls on February 4th. Except the Chinese. Your local take-away actually is likely to be closed overnight the 27th/28th January this year which is when the Lunar New Year starts. And of course it would be ridiculous to think of energy changing instantly from one year to another like a door closing. Nature does not work in straight lines like that; there are a number of markers, as the energy of the Fire Monkey ebbs and the Fire Rooster comes to life. Several of these are now past. And here we are in the sluggish nomanstime between years. A cusp, if you will, this is the time to be making major feng shui changes while the effect of the Monkey can hardly be felt and the Rooster is as yet not quite here. I am now making those annual changes in my own environment and in those of my clients.

So how is the year likely to affect you and me? And what can we do about it? Some answers may be here Animal by Animal, among your forecasts for the year. Please remember however that no astrological analysis is more powerful than your choice and that you always have free will.

Also remember that your ba zi (the snapshot of your moment of birth often misleadingly called a Chinese Horoscope) consists of Four Animals each of which will be affected differently by the new year. What I aim to do when I am hand-drafting a ba zi is to recognise and interpret the blend of these effects that indicate the likely nature of your year. And this year above all is a year of communication. And the fact is that truthful communication can transform anything.

Fire Rooster Day, a look at 2017 – Early Bird Ending Soon

October 25, 2016

Early Bird Price of £85.00 expires on the 1st November!

The Fire Rooster
Distracted by Shiny Things”, 2017 : the Year of the Turkey.
A Day with Richard Ashworth Dec 3rd 10am Godalming Pepperpot

“Meet the New Boss, same as the old boss” – Pete Townsend, “Won’t get fooled again.”

The Fire Rooster of the coming year is a capricious bird. Blessed with the charm to inspire life-long devotion, he often chooses instead to hold back, satisfied with simply dazzling. So 2017 is likely to be a year when show, publicity and packaging disguise content. It’s a year to ask difficult questions. In any case the Rooster’s yin Metal nature makes it the year of research as well as subterfuge.

This quality of making an empty impression indicates the year’s underlying nature. The least balanced Dragons (1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988) will tend to have something of a free ticket (good news for Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage and Vladimir Putin btw). They could use it to burst bubbles and highlight what’s worth highlighting. Snakes (1953, 1965, 1977, 1989) like Tony Blair and Basharat Assad prosper beyond all reasonable expectation as do Oxen – among them Barack Obama. And yes, it’s the year of the overstayed welcome as well as of the empty posture.

Meanwhile the annual lo shu or “magic square” has at its centre the Watery 1 of communication. So it’s also a year of talk, negotiation and spin. The trick will be to not allow this jaw-jaw to be empty. The Rabbit has a big role here – to challenge, bad faith and half-truth. You’ll win through as long as you stick to what matters. Angelina Jolie, this means you; your time is better spent calling governments on their arms-selling record than your ex on his spliff habit. In 2017 older Dogs will tend to bark less; Bill Clinton, George W Bush and Donald Trump – all born 1946 – will fade away. This is the last wag of the old guard; sleeping dogs, let them lie.

In our houses, the Eastern area will call for very careful treatment to forestall a plague of boils, as will the South. This makes it a year of careful manoeuvering for the 50% of us designated East Group by our birth details. The saving grace is that a South East door looks handy as does (unusually) Water in the tai chi or “heart” of the house. More I’m not going to give away before December.

Internationally the likely trouble spots are unsurprising: the Far East of course but also the East and South of anything. Flooding is likely for instance in East Anglia and hurricanes along the Carolina coast though they’ll tend to be more destructive in the Gulf of Mexico. Eastern Ukraine, the North West frontier (that’s Eastern Afghanistan) are trouble spots, as is Moscow and the Great Barrier Reef. In Europe the turmoil moves East – from for instance Austria to Hungary and Berlin to Warsaw. Not the greatest year in Canary Wharf either. Or the White House. And let’s not forget that it is not simply because worldwide turkeys are voting for Christmas that I’m calling this they year of the turkey. Or Turkey.

Richard will be talking a lot more about all of this at the Pepperpot, Godalming High Street between 10 and 5 on the 3rd December. Join us. The future starts here.

It’ll be via Skype/Zoom and hopefully start at a convenient time for you (3pm GMT is pencilled) and end at a reasonable time for you. I’ll be reviewing the year, issue by issue, animal by animal, location by location with ideas for making the best use of it. It’s a pretty comprehensive day. Hope you can make it.

My Diary for the Month of the Earth Ox – Too Much Monkey Business.

January 7, 2016

Hexagram 19

Just as the lake is inexhaustible in depth, so the sage is inexhaustible in readiness to teach. The Book of Changes.

The Ox Month, Animal by Animal.
During this Earth Ox month:
The Rat is not in charge.
The Ox is outspoken.
The Tiger is in two minds.
The Rabbit feels order is restored.
The Dragon is muted.
The Snake rises to the challenge.
The Horse remains quiet.
The Sheep is in two places at once.
The Monkey may jump the gun.
The smart Rooster bides her time.
The Dog may intervene.
and
The Pig regroups.

Where to do what, when and why.
The most fortuitous times for most action that is constructive and positive are the 18th and 28th. The first favours certain Snakes (born 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989 and 2001) and Tigers (1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998) and the second Oxen (1949, 1961, 1973 1985, 1997) Snakes and Dragons (1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000) but everyone gets a shake. Remember also that you are to a greater or lesser extent ruled by the Animals of your day, month and hour of birth as well as the year.

The Monkey ape-ears.
Here comes the Monkey year, just weeks away now. In the Chinese folk tale, the Monkey climbs to the Moon and steals the Akashic Record of deeds good and bad so as not to be judged for his own. Now that’s sneaky. The Monkey is a mischievous beast, the Fire variety especially so and that mischief runs through the coming Year.
Although the Monkey does not suffer the so-called self-clash – meaning that an Animal does not flourish in its own year – that puckish stuff can be overwhelming. It’s a year when it’s hard to respond proportionately. “Too much monkey business for me to get involved in,” as Chuck Berry wrote.
However the year is ruled also by the lo shu number 2, that is to say kun, the Mother; an interesting and complex tension, personally and internationally as well as domestically. In some senses – ecological and political, for instance – it’s as pivotal a year as there’s been. Do we succumb to the myopic naughtiness of the Monkey at his worst or open to the wisdom of the Mother? This applies as much to the bedroom and the office as to the outside world.
The downside of a Monkey Year is invasion and violence, risks both at home and away. But the Monkey is ingenious and the upside is the use of reason to benefit our families, acquaintance and the world. The worst of a 2 Year is the pursuit of right at all costs, the end sanctifying the method. The best is an opening to miracle and to lasting peace.

The Handy Monkey.
And there are things we can do. Chinese thinking separates the realm of tian (Heaven) from ti (Earth), a bridge being made by ren, that is Humanity. So we can recognise the sway of Heaven by being truthful about our own actions, deserts and responsibilities; mechanically we can ensure that we employ the best locations (which are broadly West, East and South East) and don’t overuse the worst (this year North East). This is ti – Earth ch’i. And we can choose intelligently and most of all benevolently.
As I’ve written before, nature doesn’t work in straight lines, so the Sheep year doesn’t close with a slap in an instant as the Monkey begins. There are between November and February, at least five possible dates (based on different traditional calculations) for the New Chinese Year. And right now we’re in the thick of that suspended time; a cusp, if you will, the worst energy spots of 2015 now relatively innocuous and the helpful ones for 2016 not yet much use.
Which makes the moment ripe for feng shui changes; around now we re-do the He Tu Journeys we have been making between locations in the house all year, we re-orient desks and bed, we quieten the Monkey’s tricky areas and we reclaim those places where the energy will once again assist. All of this information – as well as the one small spot to activate all year – is in my Tune-Up Drill which will be available soon. You can buy it do-it-yourself as a file, or alongside an hour of me by Skype or as part of a scheduled Tune-Up visit. You pays your money and you takes your choice.
As it happens the Chinese ideograph for the Monkey – shen – is actually a hand. And the Monkey is typically hands-on, practical and humorous as well as non-committal and capable of significant aggression. Kun, on the other hand represents Mother Earth, Gaia herself. She wields a power both subtler and less placable; her purpose is positive but her means may not be obviously so. Humankind may be likened to an unruly toddler who must be restrained by kun for his own good, lest (s)he hurt himself or worse. In the long run, his interests will be served but some privileges may have to be restricted.

Ox Pillars; know your Ox rating.
Birth in the Ox hour (01:00pm-03:00am): late fertility.
Birth in the Ox month (January*): consistent career path, monogamy.
Birth on the Ox day#: a kind of random stubbornness.
Birth in the Ox year: a spiritual or religious tradition.
* Caution, the Chinese month generally starts and finishes a few days after ours.

More Monkey Business.
I’ll be writing about the Fire Monkey in instalments over the next few weeks, expanding on how the year is likely to shape up for you, the world, your family, your business and your livelihood and what can be done about it in your own space. Perhaps watch out for those – they’ll be approx. weekly.
Along with these bulletins we’ll be publishing your individual Animal Fortunes for the year, Animal by Animal which will then go onto the website as usual.
You can btw keep up with all of the above as they appear by following me on Twitter (@FengShuiDiaries), see the link to the right and clicking on the cog icon on my profile (next to the “Follow” button) and then selecting “Turn on notifications”.
Similar result if you “like” my FaceBook page (again the link is on the right); don’t try to “friend” me btw or your inbox may fill up with pictures of my family, pot-bellied pigs being tickled and/or political rants. You can get too much of a good thing.

Four places left & Early Bird Expiring

November 16, 2015
A World going Bananas
2016, The Fire Monkey: a Year of Turbulence.
JUST FOUR PLACES LEFT AND EARLY BIRD ABOUT TO EXPIRE!
What to expect and what to do about it,
A day with feng shui man Richard Ashworth
at
The Pepperpot, Godalming.
10 till 5, Saturday December 5th 2015.

Dragons Den’s Kelly Hoppen: Richard is the man I trust with my own office.”

The favoured directions and Celestial Animals during the Fire Monkey will be very different. Monkey years often feature revolution and invasion; take 2004 (Iraq) 1992 (Desert Storm) 1980 (Russia into Afghanistan) 1968 (The Paris Barricades, Street Fighting Man, the Prague Spring) and so on. Fire Monkeys even more so: 1956 saw the Suez adventure and the Budapest uprising being savagely put down by Soviet forces. These regions remain flashpoints. And the turbulence extends to home and office – yours and mine. Not very British.

Bond Girl Naomie Harris:You were spot on about property prices.”

Whether domestically, internationally, socially or financially – bank crashes often feature the yang Metal of the Monkey – and in this as in other ways, 2016 is likely to be choppy. Some Animals will fare better than others and some properties will be easier to manage while others could be more demanding. On Saturday December 5th I will be talking about the likely shape of the year, its ups and downs and its impacts upon each of us. We start promptly at 10am at the Pepperpot in Godalming and by 5 you will be equipped with my take on the likely shape of the year, its impact on you, your loved ones, your livelihood and your environment and more to the point, how to survive it and thrive. Do join us.
Cost for the day: £125
Early Bird: £85 – paid in full by November 21st.
Places are of course limited.

Imperial Feng Shui – what’s happening

Imperial Feng Shui – what’s happening

Urban Quality: feng shui on the streets.

Over the weekend of May 9th/10th  Manuela Madeddu will be addressing the 9th Feng Shui Society Conference in London. Manuela is a gifted architect who brings something very fresh to the proceedings; her obsession is urban quality; that is the design of the spaces we share. Manuela is a senior student of mine and a member of my Padowan mentoring programme. I recommend you attend. Also my good friend Victor Garza, the only Mexican I know resident in Central China, is talking. He’s always entertaining and enlightening. We will be there in support too. And if you’re considering studying with me you can ask Manuela in person what you might be letting yourself in for.

In your own time: learn feng shui & ba zi via Skype.

And if you were thinking of feng shui study, you might like also to know the following:

“Bless you. You’ve saved my life, Richard, literally and figuratively. I’m getting so much more than feng shui from working with you. And, I sing your praises for that, literally and figuratively.”
Nancy C.

Nancy’s in Tennessee, a place known for singing, as it happens. When we first offered Skype, I had no idea how much I would learn. Of course now we can fit in with your schedule; we can link up whether you’re in Singapore, Berlin or London. Or Tennessee. And within limits we can make sessions longer or shorter and more or less frequent.   What I hadn’t realised was how this would open us up to students of greater or lesser accomplishment: this year I have taught total beginners straight off the street as well as professionals and others whose skill lay between the two. Some people need more visual material, some more; some flourish one-to-one and some wither in classes and so on. It’s been a whole education. Not least for me.

Announcement: My ba zi (Chinese Astrology) and feng shui  courses are mutually complementary (ie if you attend one in person or via Skype, you may well want to attend both). If you book and pay now for both courses, instead of £3000 for the two, you pay only £2000. If this sounds like your sort of thing, now’s the time to let us know.  If you’d like to discuss your suitability or indeed mine, please email me at richardashworthfengshui@gmail.com or call the office on 01483 428998

Tune Up Kits for 2015, the Wood Sheep, Year of Gathering.

In Singapore there are feng shui Masters everywhere. And every year the energy changes; actually the distribution of qi is changing every second but the annual change is long-lasting enough to give each year a whole new identity.  So most Novembers I go to South East Asia to find out what they’re expecting of the New Year. I didn’t do it this time. Consequently all my Animal Forecasts and my Overview of the Year were done from first principles. And because every year is different, the locations and orientations of our desks, beds, offices and streets mean very different things. Sometimes a Western door is especially helpful, sometimes working in the North East will support expansion and so on.  Which is by way of letting you know that my Tune Up Kit for 2015 which tells you what to do where and why is now available. It costs £50 or £100 with a one-hour Skype call and comes with unlimited email back up. Email becci@imperialfengshui.info if you want a pack. It’s a big word, unlimited, so compassion, please.

Wool Gathering: 2015, The Year of the Wood Sheep

February 21, 2015

Wool Gathering

2015: The Year of the Wood Sheep

The Year of Gathering.

“Only when there is an invisible bond between government and people so that the people are sheltered by their government as ground Water is sheltered by the Earth, is it possible to wage a victorious war.”The Book of Changes, Wilhelm edition.

 It’s all about tomatoes.

Sometimes when I’m asked for a scientific explanation of feng shui I say something like: “If you plant tomatoes in January, don’t expect great salads. Worse if you put them against a North-facing wall.”

We all know this really. Each of us is subject to the integrity of time and space; everything is growing or shrinking, accreting or eroding. In the words of Bob Dylan: everyone is “busy being born or busy dying.” This applies equally to people, rocks, tower blocks, penguins and pangolins. As well as tomatoes.

The cycles that a series of Chinese geniuses drew from such observations over millennia imply that Sheep years – every twelve – are quite alike and Wood Sheep years – every sixty – very much alike. That to keep it very simple, is the basis of this forecast; think of it as something to do with tomatoes.

Dragon Rules.

As it happens, last year I predicted – wrongly – a “yes” vote in the Scottish Referendum. This forecast was derived from the nature of previous Wood Horse years, going back – in steps of 60 years – centuries, principally to the formative years 1708-20 to which I have referred before and to which I shall return in this piece.

I was wrong but I had read the energy right and following that result, a wave of resentment swept around the world: to the umbrella kids in Hong Kong, to separatist Catalonia and Quebec, even Ukraine and back again to Britain where the right-wing UK Independence Party has fed ravenously upon it. More recently it has shown up in Greece, the cradle of democracy. Spain is probably next; that wave is still cresting and it very much characterises the year. This is after all, the Year of Gathering.

Note: this is not a which-Animal-am-I-will-I-have-a-good-year kind of forecast. Those are covered by my Animal by Animal forecasts.

And to see me say pretty much this please have a look at the talk  I gave for Rachel Elnaugh’s Source TV New Year event.

2014 was a Wood Horse like 1714 just as 2015 is a Wood Sheep like 1955, 1895, 1835, 1775 and 1715. 1714 saw the accession of George 1st, the first Hanoverian, a German prince parachuted in to make sure that the Scottish Stuart Kings were gone forever, turning the United Kingdom the Scots had joined less than decade before as partners into serfdom. What followed in 1715 was the First Highland Uprising. The highlanders got as far as Lancashire.

I’m not suggesting street-fighting in Preston this year, but these are parallels. As I say energy, process, is easy to read. How it manifests not so much. I suspect however that we are far from having heard the last of Scottish Independence. Or of the Umbrella Revolution.  That wave of energy, that demand to be properly represented and address the issues that matter – among them the environment, inequality, and the way we treat women – is still running wild. In 2015 it focuses.

It’s not essentially racist or nationalistic – whatever right wing enthusiasts may hope. But it’s restless. Let’s remember that the Sheep is the year of the idealist. Currently this wave is supporting the rise of the Greens in the UK as well as poleaxing the three major parties. I’m not yet ready to predict how the votes will fall in the General Election. All I will say is this: the smaller parties will achieve results no one is yet dreaming of. Parliament will not be so much hung as drawn and quartered.

To go a bit further, the balance of power in the UK will be held by 1964 Wood Dragon Nigel Farage just as globally, it will be wielded by 1952 Water Dragon Vladimir Putin. That’s how the year shapes up; the Dragon rules. Look forward to many more photo-opportunities of the Russian President in homo-erotic poses. Expect some Chinese faces in these pictures as that particular team gathers.

Meanwhile the Pig is supported by the Sheep so it’s probable 1947 Fire Pig Hillary Clinton will run for President and that ISIL firebrand 1971 Pig Abu Bakhar al-Baghdadi will be rampant for a while yet. Both will tend to be supported by this need to gather, to define sides.

What we can do ourselves is to commit, to join, to stand up and be counted, hug trees if we must but as Ram Dass said “learn our zipcodes.” Being informed is not negative. Being negative is being negative. But we must oppose what needs opposing.

A Copper’s Slips Now.

This Sheep year follows the frenetic revelations of the Horse of 2014, which saw public exposure of a series of abuses of power. Exposure is the nature of the fiery Horse. August bodies such as the CIA, FIFA and South Yorkshire Police were embarrassed by their own corruption, incompetence and reluctance to own up. As indeed they should have been. The Yorkshire force even bodged the cover-up of the cover-up of their own disgraceful handling of both the Hillsborough disaster and the Rotherham abuses. And let’s not even raise the Miners’ Strike; same force, same violent idiocy. Peter Sellers would have done it better.

It doesn’t take psychic powers to conclude that such powers-that-be are as likely to be more discreet as to be more considerate next time; the Sheep’s yin Earth nature, standing for tolerance, forgiveness, cooperation, family, joining and groups, will tend to slow up revelations. The Sheep does not embarrass her associates as the Horse can. So it will probably not be a year in which public irresponsibility is seen to have consequences. This won’t however be because it’s not going on but because it will be obscured. There will for instance be much to prevent courageous whistle-blowers such as Ed Snowden or 1967 Fire Sheep Tom Watson MP adding to their existing public testimony. The influence of Rupert Murdoch’s News International including the ludicrous Fox News will continue to grow. Legislation to check that is unlikely.

All You Need Is Love.

1967 the Summer of Love, was a Sheep year. Among the many very positive Sheep qualities is commitment. So this is a year of marriage, partnership and embarking upon long term undertakings. Renewal of vows is on the cards. It’s a time to return to family. If you have neglected children, siblings or partners, now’s the time to get on the case.  Yin Earth is about home and its protection. We need to be there.

This extends to the Earth herself. A Wood Sheep year includes an aspect of self-harm. Wood clashes or attacks the yin Earth. In this Year of Gathering, sides are drawn. This may not prove to be the year of fracking and shale retrieval. If it isn’t, it’ll be because the artificially low oil price has made random-acupuncture-of the-Earth-with-poisons less profitable for the time being and therefore a lower priority. It’s likely to be a year when statutes and equipment line up quietly to await opportunity. Don’t expect to see much of Caroline Lucas fronting protest groups. The thing to oppose will have been hidden. At least until the autumn.

And there are three Earth Climate Summits during this year. It is just possible that we’ll learn something and change our ways in time to forestall what’s already being called the 6th Great Extinction. In my office building people still put milk bottles in for landfill despite there being a re-cycling skip and just a few hundred miles South of feng shui central in Singapore, the last few habitats of the orang utan are under imminent threat right now. You want to change this? Suggest Santander Bank stops financing it. But remember perhaps that if you wear stuff or eat stuff, you’re part of the problem too. Let’s oppose what needs opposing but not waste time pointing fingers.

Peaking Ducks

Feng shui is doing the right thing in the right place at the right time and in a Sheep year, projects that require many ducks falling neatly into a row will work out as long as they’re stuck to. The only difference between success and failure is completion, isn’t it? There is the danger that many – Dogs, Sheep and Oxen in particular – will give up just as they break through. Any of the above Animals who prove sick or accident-prone this year may simply be running from opportunity. By the way the Dragon, in the form of actual Dragons born in 1952, 64, 76, 88, 2000 and 2014, is the answer. The Dragon brings magic. The Dragon’s location is the South East of the compass, his time April and the hours between 7 and 9am. This year these may be the right times and places.

Spirit Level.

The Sheep is reckoned the most spiritual of Animals, so perversely the (largely unimportant) disputes between science and faith, religion and spirituality, Sunni and Shia will tend to be fanned on her watch. The Middle East may polarise. In the last Sheep year the West blundered into Iraq despite sixteen million protesters.

The Sheep hour is the post-prandial siesta time between 1 and 3pm. And so it’s often a time to consider progress half-way through a process. Perhaps this is why she also has a reputation for being able to re-consider a position and climb down. One outcome of the embarrassments of 2014 could be a reassessment of attitudes. There are likely to be major unexpected treaties towards the end of the year.

Because the Sheep is inherently yin Earth, it can be co-operative, self-reliant, disciplined and influential. An out-of-balance Wood Sheep though is internally conflicted, unstable, liable to self-harm. So although this Sheep year, like other Sheep years has the biddable, friendly, family-loving qualities of the Sheep, it’s kind of split. The image of the Wood digging into the Earth of the Sheep is one of self-attack. Psychologically then it’s a year of self-doubt as we juggle our many roles: consumer, polluter activist, denier. We’re all all of these, of course. And the Earth itself probably has little attachment to the hairless monkeys on her surface. As Sacred Activist and visionary Andrew Harvey has it, in time Earth will shrug the disturbance off, one way or another. And yes this very important thinker is a Dragon: Water 1952.

The Sheep is a joiner, a disciple, a follower. But this year is one in which we may determine which side we’re on. The trick is perhaps to know this and be responsible while opposing what needs to be opposed. And continuing to love.

There are no Blue Meanies; it’s us. But the Beatles were right, all you need is love. On the other hand if we were doing it right the Earth would be a safer place by now.

3’s a Crowd.

Technically this year is also for other reasons a 3 lo shu year which means it’s a year of dispute. Simmering disagreement may spill into frank opposition and be solved by communication. These kinds of events will be the keynote of the last quarter of the year; this will tend to be true in commerce, diplomacy and warfare. “Plateau” situations resolve for better or worse in a 3 year. 3 represents the raw contentious yang Wood energy of ambition, assertiveness, getting things done, the qualities of youth, especially of the young man. Contention is not of itself of course negative and if you want more of it, for whatever reason, occupy and activate the East. If you’re feeling really stroppy go South.

The lap yum or “note” of the year Metal in the Sand means it’s a year of conservation; that means care with resources. Or carelessness. This is the year of parties lining up: polluters & the ecologically aware, business and spirit, money and quality of life. The Sheep has even the most reluctant of us playing well with others. But extremely selectively. And at this point in history we seem unable to be at our best other than in competition. So it’s by extension a year of competition.

The Year Hexagram 48 Jing the Well, from the Book of Changes, underlines this; it is about the conservation of resources. As Mississippi Fred McDowell had it: “You don’t miss your Water till your well run dry”. Jing is about the quality of Water and about the bucket we send down into the Well to draw the Water

Not that this is much of a surprise. As the next Chinese Fate Period (9) opens sometime between 2017 and 2024, these issues become central. 9 means Fire, so global warming and its implications such as the custodianship of Water. The disputes of the 21st century will be mostly about land and Water.

The Great Year.

So we’re in the middle of a 60 year Cycle, precisely the 8th stop in one that began in 2008. Previous Sheep years, multiples of twelve years ago will be somewhat like this one. And previous Wood Sheep years will be extremey like this one.

Let’s go back in multiples of 60: in 1955 the courageous Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a Mississippi bus thus bringing to the attention of the world the two great truths highlighted by the life of Martin Luther King – as played by the remarkable David Oyelowo in Selma – that you can’t shoot someone without a gun and that black citizens have the same rights as white ones. In 2015, the events in Ferguson Mississippi are mirrored and re-doubled.

Another event that took place in 1955 was the resignation of Winston Churchill as Prime Minister to be replaced by Sir Anthony Eden who is best remembered for the last flourish of British gun boat diplomacy: the Suez adventure in 1956 – that is to say the next year in the cycle, a Fire Monkey just like 2016. Watch this space. And the Middle East.

An interesting astrological fact about 2014/5 is that it’s the first time since 1938 that the Moon has been new on the day of the Winter Solstice. You may remember that the following year featured some excitement.

Forever Blowing Bubbles.

Finally, if you think junk bonds were invented by Drexel Burnham in the 1980’s think again. Blame the South Sea Trading Company, established 1708. This corporation bought up the British national debt and then re-sold it as investment bonds. The bonds offered decent interest and were reckoned 100% secure; it was guaranteed by the British Empire wasn’t it? So the bonds changed hands over the next few year at thousands of percent of their face value. Until 1720 when the Bubble burst, spreading ruin across the developed world; not at that time such a big expanse, pretty much the British Empire (including the USA) and Europe. 1708 sits in the same point in the cycle as 2008 and 1720 as 2020. That is to say that since the Banking Collapse of 2008 we have been reliving the same cycle. Without apparently learning much. I know I bang on about this, but as George Santayana wrote: “Those who will not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”

If we go back far enough in point of fact, we find that 1797 – which saw William Wallace’s response to early English expansionism at Sterling Bridge – reflects 2017, the year after next. Not such a great prognosis.

Mel Gibson: note. Time for Braveheart II – This time it’s Colonial?

If you follow the maths further, 2015 drops into the same spot in the cycle as 1775 which fell between the Boston Tea Party and the Declaration of Independence in 1776. 2016 is like 1776, a Fire Monkey. There is a time of turbulence coming. That year is also the same as 1836, the year of the Alamo. That connection of itself stands examination.

Going further back, fans of “Wolf Hall” are probably unlikely to have noticed that 1535 was an even earlier echo. What happened then? Henry VIII confiscated the Church property which had been funded by the poor in order to give it to newly-created Barons who frankly had enough already; a pretty literal activity of taking from the poor and giving to the rich. As I write, the ceo of Citigroup has been paid around $13m for presiding over a further year of failure and corruption.

That’s the Wood Sheep. A year of joining,  a year of gathering. It’s possible at year’s end that we will share a coherent strategy for adapting to climate change and that some of the two billion currently going to bed hungry will have been relieved. Or that the orang utan, the tiger or the snow-leopard will have some sort of future to look forward to.

We’re all consumers and polluters but we can wake up to that. We’re all voters and we can make sure we use our votes and encourage others – especially – our children to do so too. That wave of energy is still cresting. We can take it anywhere we want. Can’t we? Let’s be very careful where we plant our tomatoes.

Animal Forecast 2015: 11. Barking Restricted, outlook for the Dog in 2015

February 19, 2015

Who is a Dog?

Years:  1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006.
Month*:  October
Hour: 07:00 pm – 09:00 pm
Day: ask us
* Caution: the start of the Chinese month can be as early as the 4th & as late as the 9th, depending on the year. I can let you know this too.

What is a Dog?
The Dog is yang earth and a byword for good faith and consistency. Terriers and Rotweilers are both fierce and loyal. In mediaeval heraldry and Renaissance painting, the Dog in the form of the greyhound,  symbolises constancy.

So a Dog can be expected to revere tradition and have a strong family background. If a Dog commits to something they can generally be relied upon to see it to completion. The difference between male and female Dogs can be that the female gets the message quicker. Interesting to note that Kate Middleton and Prince William are twin Water Dogs of 1982; a very solid match because as a yang earth sign, the Dog is pretty immovable, an ideal best friend or protector. These two are, first and foremost, good friends.

The Dog’s thinking may not always be flexible but when he gets an idea, he really gets it. His natural grouping is with the hunters, the Horse and Tiger. The apportionment of tasks here is obvious: the Horse provides pace and the Tiger ferocity while the Dog watches the rear. If HR people studied Chinese metaphysics, more workplaces would zing: in business the Horse will tend to be the sales person, the Tiger the closer or credit controller and the Dog the provider of after-sales service or er…HR department.

The Dog excels at service because he never gives up. He will return your phone calls and keep that appointment. You’re the friend who sends a card every birthday and the spouse who remembers every anniversary. You care.

The Dog also, perhaps surprisingly, mixes well with the gentle diplomatic Rabbit. The Rabbit schmoozes while the Dog ensures that his colleague’s openness is not abused. The Dog makes a wonderful bodyguard and middle manager. A Dog employer will have achieved that position by sheer hard work and will demand the same from all around.

The Dog doesn’t like the Dragon because he’s such a smarty pants. Also the Dog can feel insecure around success without effort* and the Dragon creates with such apparent ease. You’re suspicious of magic. So you’re often not so keen on the mini-Dragon, the Snake either; you’d even resent the Horse (too damn flighty) except that you are scrupulously loyal to your own team#.

An unbalanced Dog is a bit of a shop steward. He knows his rights and the way things should be – often that’s the way they always have been btw. An unbalanced Dog (such as one with an October or mid-evening birth) is just too respectful. The smart Dog learns to ask questions.

The Dog will often have a strong spiritual agenda and if he has a blind spot it may be an inability to respect the difference between religion and spirituality or spirituality and therapy. Because this means he sticks to his guns, the Dog is suited both to new age therapy and religious persecution. He will not be thrown off by the opinions of others once he has committed to a line of action. In fact the unbalanced Dog can be thick skinned in matters of belief. Some Dogs would be ideally suited to being a Grand Inquisitor. The problem is that his motto ought to be “Do as you would be done by,” and he thinks it already is.

The Dog can work well with other Dogs and with the Pig. With the Pig he shares a love of home and team and they are so different they don’t crowd each other. Sometimes the Dog and Pig can be telepathically close; this is because they are adjacent signs in the calendar linked by the yang earth that is a feature of both. Sometimes this earth is expressed by banter or earthy humour. They can have a lot of fun together while getting the job done.

But the most powerful and most demanding role the Dog can play is in a creative team including the irritating Dragon, the autocratic Ox and the soft Sheep. If the Dog acts as conscience and bookkeeper, the Ox will relax, the Sheep toughen up and the Dragon acknowledge someone else for a change. If you are a Dog recruiting for non-executive directors, take note. What is great about the Dog is that if you find advice that works you will adopt it as if it were religion. Bless.

*Consider 1970 Dog George Osborne and his “hard-working families” trope.

# David Cameron: 1966 Horse

Dog in Wood Sheep Year

Stars include: Moon.

Classically the meeting of Dog and Sheep is a break-up. This year has that about it; it’s possible that certain key assumptions in your life are false. If so by the way, they only reflect your inner truth. If the premises you act on are in error, you’re only deceiving yourself.

Such break-ups can be literal or figurative. And they’re all both healthy (in the great scheme of things) and preventable. The Dog’s big weakness is not questioning enough. You may believe your constancy is reflected in the outside world. And it’s not that good is not reflected everywhere but that what’s good and bad is a question of viewpoint. Some people find tickling painful and some enjoy being tied up and whipped. Apparently. There are, dare I say it, more than fifty grades of chi.

But the Dog is also a key player in the central dynamic of 2015, the Year of Gathering: the so-called “Bullying Punishment.” This fracas occurs when Ox and Sheep meet Dog. It’s a misunderstanding but often it looks like the most hideous confrontation. And obviously in a Sheep year it’s going to happen a great deal if only because the Sheep in the calendar is going to collide with real Dog and Ox people in Ox and Dog hours, days and months. When the punishment is sustained it speaks of damage; a ba zi with these characters early in life will need a great deal of love later on to straighten it out. It’s quite likely – but not certain – that you’re one of them.

So this year you deal with break-up of some sort. It could be relationship – especially if you were born on a Dog day – but it doesn’t have to be. That depends on the way you conduct the relationship. It is at least as likely a bust-up with a long-established client, customer or colleague, especially if your birth was in October, the Dog Month. And watch for the hardest one: birth hour between 7&9pm implies possible estrangement from your kids, your future dreams or both. The solution: trust yourself, be gentle and question everything.

And meanwhile the Bullying Punishment rages around you. The Sheep brings gathering, a drawing-up of lines. Teams form, families close ranks, marriages are re-committed to. And armies grow. You are likely to be personally involved; hardest-hit in July and October of course but you’ll already know from the events of January 2015 that January 2016 will test you as much. The inflexibility of the Ox will clash with the slavishness of the Sheep wherever you go. Arguments will break out about nothing – because they are about nothing; nothing that’s here and now and present at least. And both Sheep and Ox will tend to be in your face. These may be the actually astrologically cloven-hooved or people and situations that embody this tension. the Ox often stands for religion – with whose rigidity you may have little truck – and the Sheep for spirituality – which may be too airy-fairy for you to be comfortable with. Both will tend to demand your agreement this year.

What’s the solution? The Dragon. When the Ox, Sheep and Dog come together, they may hatch grand plans but they often lack the magic to bring them into reality. The Dragon is that magic. You may find it in yourself although you are very likely temperamentally unsuited to allowing an answer to emerge without fully understanding how it was arrived at. That Dragon quality can be tapped at SE1 (ESE) and during April of course and between 7 and 9 am every morning. It’s a kind of forgiveness. A letting go that allows magic through. Trust yourself, question everything and be alert for the presence of the Dragon.

All of the above sounds pretty testing but 2015 need not be. The Bullying Punishment arises most commonly as a great and positive breakthrough looms. This year your big project may call you and it may require tremendous preparation. Three of the four ducks required may be in a row and then one may fall. The Dragon is the fourth duck. The reason that the punishment is so common and so notorious is that so often, given the choice between big and challenging success and distractions like sickness and accidents, we falter and fall. The choice to rise, however it shows up, is the Dragon.

So a year of drama and tension but also of big opportunity. The question is whether you believe in magic, isn’t it?

Health: breathe more deeply to stay present in moments of pressure.

Money: you might acquire assets this year.

Relationship: better for female heterosexuals and gay males. More friendship than lust.

Feng Shui: South not much use. Seek NE3 (ENE); occupy, activate face.

Readers’ Digest Version: seek the magic embodied in the Dragon.
